A day at PortAventura World
six worlds in one park, from the Far West to China, a step away from the Salou motorhome area
The motorhome stays at the Salou area and you walk to the park: that is what makes PortAventura a convenient stop rather than an expedition. Inside you change world six times, from the Mediterranean village at the entrance to the Far West, from Mexico to China, from Polynesia to SésamoAventura, which is the part built for the youngest. We went the day after Roman Tarragona, and it took the whole day: you go in during the morning and come out in the dark. In 2025 the park was turning thirty, and the anniversary bunting was everywhere.
Getting there
- From the area on Avinguda de Joan Fuster you walk: it is the same base you take the regional train from into the centre of Tarragona
- The entrance is on the Mediterrània side, the fishing village that serves as the gateway town
- A train runs inside the park linking the areas, and passes the panda meadow in the Chinese area: with tired children at the end of the day it saves a walk across
- Ferrari Land has its own entrance and its own ticket, even though you can see it from inside PortAventura

Notes
- Opening times change with the season and with the day, and in some winter periods the park is closed: the up-to-date calendar is on the official site, under opening times
- The Dragon Khan is the symbol of the park: the red coaster in the Chinese area, eight inversions, visible from half the park. Next to it is Shambhala, which has the highest lift
- The Templo del Fuego, in the Mexican area, is an indoor show inside a Mayan temple, and you feel the flames on you. It is hot and it is loud: with the youngest it is better to know first
- The Far West has the Silver River Flume, the log ride with the mill wheel, and Stampida, the wooden coaster
- SésamoAventura keeps the rides for the youngest: the canoes, Coco Piloto (Grover's aeroplanes, Grover being Coco in Spanish) and Tami Tami, a first roller coaster in life
- The park opened in 1995: in 2025 the thirtieth-anniversary logo was on the China arch and the bunting ran the length of Mediterrània
- At the end of April the giant Easter eggs were still standing, on the deck by the lake
- The best light for photographs is in the last hours, when the sun catches the red structures of the Dragon Khan side on and the crowd moves off towards the evening show
