The Maremonti cycle path from Levanto to Framura
five flat kilometres along the old railway line, through lit tunnels and down to the coves
The path runs along the bed of the old coastal railway between Levanto and Framura, by way of Bonassola. It is flat from the first metre to the last, surfaced, with the two cycling directions marked on the ground and a separate lane for walkers. Much of the route is inside the railway tunnels, lit and cool; the rest opens out onto balconies above the cliffs, with steps down to the coves. What takes time is not the route, which is short, but the stops in the villages.
Getting there
- In Levanto the entrance to the path is on the seafront
- In Framura it starts above the little harbour: from the station forecourt you go through a tunnel, then up by the steps or the lift
- Bicycles can be hired in the villages, so there is no need to carry your own on the motorhome

Notes
- The path belongs to the Comune di Levanto, whose official page gives the Levanto to Framura stretch as about five kilometres
- The tunnels are lit; the walls still show the layers of soot left by the old locomotives
- Being largely under cover it is pleasant even on hot days, but the best colours come in spring and autumn
- Bicycle hire, electric bikes included, is available in the three villages: the rates still need checking on the spot
- Along the way there is a beach where dogs are freely admitted, under order no. 22 of 28 June 2019 of the municipalities of Bonassola and Levanto: access from dawn to dusk, ten dogs at a time at most on the beach and no more than five at a time in the water, lead no longer than 1.50 metres, dog registered and with a veterinary certificate no more than thirty days old; there is no shade and no lifeguard
- In Levanto there are the church of Sant'Andrea with its black and white bands, the medieval Loggia and the Castello di San Giorgio; the broad beach is a reference point for surfers when the libeccio blows
- In Bonassola the bay with its coloured houses, and on foot the detour towards Punta del Carlino
- Framura is not a single village: the little harbour sits between two rocks and there are five hamlets, Setta, Costa, Ravecca, Anzo and Castagnola; at Costa stand the Carolingian watchtower and the church of San Martino
