Visit Ponte di Legno

Authentic Mountain between Skiing and Alpine Tradition

Ponte di Legno is a small Alpine gem in Lombardy, nestled in the heart of the Adamello-Brenta Park, at 1,258 meters above sea level. This ski resort is well-known to RV travelers seeking an authentic destination: not a tourist metropolis, but a genuine experience among the mountains. The landscape changes radically with the seasons—in winter, the snow transforms the village into a white jewel; in summer, the green valleys fill with hikers and trekking enthusiasts. Ponte di Legno represents the perfect balance between adrenaline and serenity, between winter sports and alpine calm, with the warm welcome that characterizes small mountain communities.

Typical Dishes and Local Products

Casunziei are traditional ravioli from Valle Camonica, with a characteristic half-moon shape and a generous filling. The Ponte di Legno version features a mix of fresh ricotta cheese, potatoes, caramelized onion, and a touch of parsley. A dish that encapsulates the simplicity and authenticity of the mountain.

Authentic Casunziei Recipe from the Valley

Ingredients (for 4 people):

For the pasta:

  • 300 g of 00 flour
  •
  • 1 whole egg
  •
  • 50 ml of lukewarm water
  •
  • 1 pinch of salt

For the filling:

  • 200 g of fresh mountain ricotta cheese
  •
  • 150 g of boiled and mashed potatoes
  •
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  •
  • 30 g of butter
  •
  • 1 clove of garlic
  •
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  •
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  •
  • 50 g of grated Asiago DOP cheese
For the sauce:

  • 100 g of butter
  •
  • 8-10 fresh sage leaves
  •
  • 30 g of grated Asiago DOP cheese
  •
  • Salt and pepper

Method:

  1. Prepare the dough: In a bowl, make a well with the flour. Add the egg, salt, and water gradually. Knead vigorously until a smooth and elastic dough is obtained. Cover with a cloth and let rest for 30 minutes.
  2.
  3. Prepare the filling: In a pan, sauté the onion in butter over low heat for 10 minutes, adding the garlic. Transfer to a bowl, add the ricotta, mashed potatoes, parsley, and Asiago. Mix gently. Taste and adjust salt and pepper.
  4.
  5. Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of 2 mm. Use a circular pastry cutter (8 cm diameter) to cut out discs.
  6.
  7. Fill the casunziei: Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each disc. Fold the disc in half and press the edges well to seal. If you want the characteristic half-moon shape, fold one of the ends inwards.
  8.
  9. Boil the casunziei: Immerse the casunziei in a pot of boiling salted water. Cook for 3-4 minutes after they float to the surface. Drain them gently.
  10.
  11. Dress: In a large pan, melt the butter with the sage. Transfer the casunziei, stir gently, and add the grated Asiago. Serve hot with a grind of black pepper.

Tip: A dish that warms the soul after a long day in the mountains. In the mountains, it is often accompanied by a simple chicory salad.

Useful Tips

Stop for at least three days: the first to acclimate and discover the center, the second for a main activity (skiing or hiking), and the third for a night snowshoe walk or a quieter trip. Let the alpine rhythm capture you and carry you through your camper journey.
